About Pace Lionesses
Pace girls are part of pace youth boys club who have a large number of boys teams ranging from u8 to u13. The girls team was set up in October 2003 when i was asked if i would be interested in coaching the sisters of the boys that were playing for the club.
At that stage it was just about the girls wanting to train as they came with their brothers to training and wanted to join in. I took up the offer and the first few weeks we only had about 6 girls coming and it was a bit of fun and they learnt right from scratch how to kick a ball. It gradually progressed from there and we were beginning to get more girls coming along, mainly from abbotswood school, thanks to Megan and her dad.
Before too long i had about twelve girls there some weeks, and they were getting interested in playing some matches so we had a chat with the parents who were just as keen and we decided to enter the league at u10 age group for the 2004/2005 season.
I signed 10 players to the league and off we went. The first couple of games we lost but then started to get it together and played really well considering it was their first season. Anyway we finished third in the league and won the Plate Competition which was a great day for all the parents and girls. The sponsor, new forest limousines, laid on a limo as a surprise to pick the girls up after the final and whisk them off to a surprise party we had laid on. Something im sure they remember for ever.
Leading on to this year we were hoping to have u10's and u12's but unfortunately were not able to find enough new u10 players. On top of that three of the girls who remained as u10's were picked for the Southampton centre of excellence.
So for this year we will be running just the u12 team and hopefully expand new year.
